Description
On October 17, 1961, a demonstration by Algerians living in France was met with a bloody crackdown by police forces, acting on the orders of Prefect Maurice Papon. There were numerous deaths—with bodies thrown into the Seine—and many others were wounded and held in camps for days; meanwhile, the state propagated a lie to cover up this organized crime. Today, surviving witnesses recount the horror of that night and the silence that followed.
