To coincide with the release of the film Octobre à Paris, Mehdi Lallaoui produced a 15-minute introductory segment designed to explain the context of the era and place the Algerian War—as well as the unleashing of racist hatred against the demonstrators—into perspective regarding the protest of October 17, 1961. This introduction brings together reflections and viewpoints from Daniel Mermet (a witness to the October 1961 protest), Jean-Luc Einaudi (author of Un massacre à Paris, octobre 1961), Gilles Manceron, Monique Hervo (author of Chroniques du bidonville : Nanterre en guerre d’Algérie), and lawyer Nicole Rein.
