A film set against the backdrop of the last few days of 1944 in northern Finland where two soldiers from the opposing sides, Veikko (a condemned Finnish sniper) and Ivan (a Russian soldier) find shelter on a remote farm owned by a young Sami war widow Anni. Both men have been wounded and emotionally tortured and a number of confusing and comic encounters arise as none of these survivors can understand or speak each other’s language. But life goes on, and at the end of a hard day’s work on Anni’s farm, who needs words?
