Description
Henri Charlègue (a fictionalised version of the real-life journalist Henri Alleg) is the editor of a banned communist newspaper who, along with his colleagues, continues to publish articles criticising the French regime. He is captured and detained at El-Biar, where he is subjected to brutal torture. With the help of his lawyers, Charlègue writes and publishes an account of his experiences, exposing the atrocities committed by the French authorities.
