Description
A ‘tenement gentleman’ discovers a little boy who has been abandoned by his parents, and decides to bring the boy back home with him. Unable to care for him himself, and unwilling to forsake the child again, the tenement gentleman gathers the neighbours together and they draw straws to determine who will take care of him. The short straw is drawn by a middle-aged woman who lives alone and has little desire to take in an orphan, but their relationship quickly grows close and affectionate.
