Idrissa leaves the university zone for a few hours to bid farewell to his Muscovite girlfriend Ira. Paralyzed with fear and hidden in the shadows, this doomed relationship between a black man and a white woman in contemporary Russia acts as a metaphor for the sense of exclusion and misunderstanding at the heart of the outsider experience.
