Description
In 1930s Martinique, José is a bright and mischievous boy who lives with his grandmother, a sugar cane cutter, in a rural village. When José is offered a scholarship to attend high school in the capital city, his grandmother sacrifices everything so he can gain a good education – but his prejudiced teachers refuse to see past his background and acknowledge his potential.
