A musical comedy with lightly propagandistic underpinnings. In the Ukraine just after the Second World War, Nazar, the director of a farm, is in love with a young lady, Oksana, but is worried she is more interested in his friend, Pyotr. However, Pyotr has his eye on Vera, a farm worker, who raises the milk quota by giving the cows extra food. The narrative is interspersed with songs.
