The third and final part of Kozintsev’s famous ‘Maxim trilogy’ which tells the story of the Bolshevik revolution and its aftermath through the eyes of Russian ‘everyman’ Maxim. After the Revolution, the previously impoverished Maxim is appointed a Commissar of the Treasury. He shares his good fortune with those who loyally fought beside him in the Dark Days, including his beloved Natasha, who as chairman of the Vyborg Soviet District personalises the vital role of women in the Brave New World of Communism.
